harmful effects of plastics

Plastics, commonly used in our day to day life without having proper knowledge about its toxicity it brings to the environment. Besides facing the dangers of water, air and land pollution , plastic accumulation is destroying our land, water and ocean. Continuous usage of plastics is a warning signal to all living species on earth.
Consequences of improper disposal of plastics:

  • Disposal of plastics into water culls the marine world.
  • Depletion of poisonous chemicals from plastics mixes in the air that causes health problems to all living beings.
  • Soil fertility gets affected when it blends in the earth’s surface.
  • Burning plastics is harmful to our environment.
  • Death of animals occurs due to the inhale of toxic chemicals emitted through plastics.
  • Plastics debris leads to ingestion and entanglement of sea birds and animals.

Do you know?

  • Every year thousands of marine species and 1 million birds die due to plastic pollution
  • It takes almost 1000 years for plastics to decay and mixing it with soil.
  • Plastic bags are often mistakenly eaten by animals, clogging their intestines which results in starvation and death.
  • Plastics poison our food chain.
  • Plastic recycling is not a solution to the crisis.
  • Plastic pollution is not only in the ocean, it is also seen in desert.

Our responsibility:

  • Everyone should hold responsibility to reduce the usage of plastics.
  • Spread awareness about the adverse effects of plastic bags.
  • Educate our family members to adapt to paper bags and jute bags instead of plastic bags.
  • Use reusable plastics.
  •  It may be impossible to eliminate plastic bags wholly but finding an alternative solution soon can bring fruitful changes.

Dear children, we should take the pledge to save our mother earth from pollution. Don’t let your future dump in plastic. When other species die because of our activities it is the indication that we are in crisis too. “We are inheriting this problem and we are going to be the ones who fix it”- Rylie Neely. Until next time!.
Yours loving,
Mother Earth.
